PRELIM PROCESS

To compete in the Fursuit Dance Competition you must attend the scheduled prelims.

If you cannot attend the prelims, please reach out to [email protected]

While we don’t have an age restriction on this competition, a minor must have their adult companion with them at all times.

Due to intellectual property rules, you may not compete for a winning position with a replicated routine, so only original choreography is allowed.

You must perform the first minute of your routine during the prelims in the fursuit you will be performing in for finals.

Fursuit feet are encouraged but not required

Performers must at least have a head and handpaws

Categories

There are two categories – Solo & Group acts. However, all acts will be judged together. (i.e. There is only 1 first place, 1 second place, 1 third place. Tie breaker rules will be used to determine placement.)

RULES FOR COMPETING

All competitors are bound by these rules. Violating the rules may result in disqualification from the event.

Eligibility Requirements

All entries must have music for their routine, submitted with your entry form. Try to keep your music PG-13, as the competition is an all-ages show.

Music selections should be ready to play for your final performance, in MP3 format, and at least 256kbps. All files must be named: [Your Fursuit Name Aquatifur24].mp3 (For example: FuzzbuttAquatifur24.mp3)

Fursuiters only

This is a fursuit dance competition after all! You need all of the following to compete: a head and hand paws, If you choose to wear a partial.

Your prelim must be your stage performance

What you perform in the preliminaries must be what you intend to perform for the actual show! This allows our prelim judges to make the most informed decision in choosing the best acts for the stage.

Performance Duration

  • Performances must not exceed 2:00 long. It is recommended that competitors do a simple edit on their music tracks to prevent any possible issues with start/end times during the competition.
  • The minimum time for a routine is 1:00 long.
  • If your music runs longer than 2:00 (two minutes), it will be faded out at that point. If your routine goes over by a few seconds (5 at the most) it will be fine, but if you can end it by 2:00 it is greatly preferred.
  • Group entries are allotted an extra 30 seconds per additional person. This starts when a group has three members. For example, a group of two would still have the limit of two minutes, but a group of three would be allotted 2:30. The maximum time a group’s mix should be is 3:00.
  • Music should not include any inappropriate language or lyrics. This is a family-friendly convention and this event is rated PG13. Any inappropriate language in a track should be edited out by the performer beforehand. It’s encouraged to look up radio edits of music to see if there is something pre-censored for an easier editing process.

Props

  • Only small clothing or “accessory” props (a cane, hat, fan, plush, exc.) are allowed to be used.
  • Footwear used for specific dance-styles are allowed (ballet shoes, tap-dance shoes, high heels, exc.)
  • Please send an email to [email protected] if you plan on using any props so we are aware and ready to accommodate.

Behavior

  • Any aggressive or bullying behavior will NOT be tolerated.
  • Consequences of this behavior can result in disqualification of dance events, or even blacklisting from future AEIOU conventions.
  • If you witness any behaviors like this, please contact either lead staff of dance events, con security, or email [email protected]

Sick/nervous group member? The show can go on.

Groups who qualify for finals may substitute or drop one individual in finals as long as it affects less than half the group. (IE. a 2 person group must find a substitute in case one person cannot perform, but a 3-person group can either drop or substitute a member).

Have fun!

In the end, remember most of all: This is just for fun! If you don’t get in, don’t get discouraged. We’re all dancers here, and the world is our stage; not just this one. Good luck, and see you out there on the dance floor!

JUDGING CRITERIA

Some of the aspects our judges will be looking for; some judges may consider different aspects more important than others! Judges are also asked to make proper judgements based on the level of fursuit worn. (For example, a fullsuiter is more restricted in movement than someone in a partial)

Stage Presence

  • How did the dancer use the space given?
  • Did they engage with and/or move the audience?
  • Did they add character and flair to their routine?

Choreography

  • Did the movements mesh together into a coherent routine?
  • Did anything clash negatively?
  • Were moves excessively repeated/mimicked?

Musicality

  • How did the dancer tailor their movements to the music?
  • Were they on time?
  • Did they hit key beats?

Technicality

  • How difficult were the movements made?
  • What level of polish was displayed?
